In the landscaping industry, designers and contractors refer to hardscape as the inorganic elements incorporated into a landscape.
Hardscapes are the patio's, walkways, and fences that offer function in each landscape design. Merriam Webster defines hardscape simply as: structures (fountains, benches, gazebo's) incorporated into a landscape
Hardscape elements are numerous and vary by each design based on functional needs and budget. Some of the most common elements found in landscapes are stone, concrete, gravel, timber, glass, metal etc.
